Overview

Where’s My Signal? (“WMS”) helps you decide which jobs are worth spending an application on. You sign in with Google, add your background and preferences, and provide job postings you’re considering. WMS analyzes each posting against your background and preferences, and you can save the jobs you want to track in Applications.

This policy explains what information WMS collects to do that, how it’s used and shared, and the choices you have.

Information you provide

Your Google account

WMS uses Google Sign-In. When you sign in, WMS receives your name, email address, profile picture, and whether your email address is verified, along with an account identifier and the sign-in tokens Google provides. WMS doesn’t receive your Google password and doesn’t request access to your Gmail, Drive, or other Google data.

Your resume and profile

You can upload a resume (PDF or DOCX). WMS reads the file to extract its text, and that text is analyzed to produce a structured summary of your background — such as your skills, certifications, education, work experience, and projects — which is saved to your profile.

The app processes the uploaded file in memory and is designed not to save the original file or the extracted resume text; what it keeps is the structured summary. Uploading a new resume replaces your saved summary.

Your preferences

You can set job preferences, such as the locations you’re targeting, whether remote roles count, the work arrangement and experience level you want, and the kinds of roles you’re interested in. WMS uses them when it analyzes a job for you.

Job postings you analyze

To analyze a job, you provide the job posting’s text. You can also add optional details: the job title, company, location, and work arrangement. If you don’t save the result, WMS doesn’t save the posting or its analysis to your account or its application database.

Jobs you save to Applications

When you choose Save job or Mark as applied, WMS saves:

  • The job posting text and the details you provided;
  • The analysis as it was shown to you, including the Priority Score, the recommendation, and the reasons behind it, along with the information used to produce that analysis (this doesn’t include your original resume file);
  • The application status you set (Saved, Applied, Interviewing, Offer, Rejected, or No response) and the dates those statuses were recorded.

A saved analysis is a snapshot. It isn’t automatically re-run when you later change your resume or preferences, so it always shows the analysis you saw when you saved the job.

How WMS uses this information

WMS uses the information above to:

  • Sign you in and keep you signed in;
  • Build your profile from your resume and preferences;
  • Analyze the job postings you provide against your background and preferences;
  • Save and show the jobs you track in Applications;
  • Understand how the product is used, so it can be improved;
  • Keep the service working and protect it from misuse, such as by limiting how often analyses can be run.

WMS doesn’t use your information for advertising.

AI analysis and OpenAI

WMS uses OpenAI’s API to generate its analysis. Depending on the step, WMS sends OpenAI:

  • To summarize your resume: the text extracted from the resume you upload, including anything your resume contains, such as contact details.
  • To analyze a job posting: the job posting text you provide, and the job title and company if you entered them.
  • To compare a job with your background: your structured resume summary, the structured analysis of the job posting, and, when relevant, the states or regions you’ve chosen in your preferences.

WMS doesn’t send your Google account name, email address, or profile picture as part of these requests. OpenAI processes this information to return results to WMS, and its handling of that information is governed by OpenAI’s own policies. AI-generated analysis can be incomplete or wrong — see the Terms of Service.

What WMS stores

WMS stores the following in its database for your account:

  • Your account information from Google, the sign-in tokens needed to authenticate you, and your sign-in sessions;
  • Your profile: your structured resume summary and your preferences;
  • The jobs you save to Applications, as described above.

If you used an earlier version of WMS, data from features that have since been retired may still be stored with your account until you delete it.

Analytics

WMS uses PostHog to understand how people use the product. This can include page views and product actions — for example, completing sign-in or profile setup, saving a job, or changing an application’s status — along with the referring page and campaign (UTM) information, browser and device information, and approximate location or other network-derived information that PostHog may collect.

Analytics are tied to an identifier stored in your browser and, once you sign in, to an internal WMS account identifier. The events WMS sends are designed not to include your resume content, job posting text, name, or email address. WMS has turned off PostHog’s session recording and automatic click capture. When you sign out or delete your account, WMS resets the analytics identifier in that browser.

Cookies and browser storage

  • Sign-in: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, plus security cookies used while you sign in with Google.
  • Analytics: PostHog uses cookies and local storage in your browser to remember its analytics identifier across visits.

WMS doesn’t use advertising cookies or ad-network tracking pixels.

Service providers

WMS relies on these service providers to operate:

  • Google — sign-in;
  • OpenAI — AI analysis;
  • PostHog — product analytics;
  • Hosting and database service providers that run the application and store its data.

WMS doesn’t sell your personal information or share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Removing saved Applications

You can remove a job from Applications on its page. This permanently deletes that saved job from WMS’s database, including its job posting text and details, its saved analysis, and its status history.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Settings. This permanently removes from WMS’s application database your account, sign-in sessions, profile (including your resume summary and preferences), every job saved to Applications with its job details, saved analysis, and status history, and any data from retired features. This can’t be undone.

Deleting your account doesn’t automatically delete information already held by service providers such as Google, OpenAI, or PostHog, which handle it under their own policies. You can also remove WMS’s access to your Google account from your Google Account settings.

Data retention

WMS keeps your account, profile, and saved Applications for as long as your account exists, unless you remove them sooner. Job postings you analyze without saving aren’t stored in WMS’s database, though they may be held briefly in server memory while the service is running.

Service providers, including hosting and database providers, may keep information such as operational logs and backups under their own retention practices. WMS doesn’t currently commit to a specific retention schedule beyond what’s described here.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as WMS changes. When it is, the effective date at the top of this page will change.
